The Devil Wears Prada 2 is already making noise, and Simone Ashley, Caleb Hearon, and Helen J. Shen are speaking up. The three newest additions have shared exactly why they said yes without hesitation. Their answer points to something bigger than just a sequel, and it starts with who came back to make it.

The original creative team of returning made joining The Devil Wears Prada 2 a no-brainer for the new trio. Director David Frankel and writer Aline Brosh McKenna are both back, twenty years later, with a fresh vision. And with Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt all reprising their iconic roles, the ensemble they were stepping into was impossible to say no to.

"That the original team was back and that they wanted to say something new with another movie was just so exciting," said Helen J. Shen to Discussing Film.

Simone Ashley added, "So, so, so iconic and so like on my list of favorite movies that when I got the email, I was like, oh, like, of course, I would want to be part of this," making it clear this was personal, not just professional.

The new additions do not stop at the trio. Lucy Liu and Justin Theroux play a celebrity power couple going through a divorce. B.J. Novak steps in as the son of Irv, the Elias-Clarke chairman. Patrick Brammall plays Andy's new love interest, Peter, while Kenneth Branagh joins as Miranda's husband, Stuart. Pauline Chalamet, Rachel Bloom, Lady Gaga, and Conrad Ricamora round out a stacked supporting lineup.

As the new cast brings fresh energy on screen, the numbers outside the theater are telling their own story about just how much the world wanted this sequel.

The Devil Wears Prada 2's box office opening shows audiences are all in

The Devil Wears Prada 2 opened to approximately 10 million dollars in Thursday previews alone. Domestic opening weekend projections sit between 75 million and 100 million dollars, a significant leap from the original 2006 film's 27.5 million dollar debut. Global totals have already crossed 114 million dollars in early tracking. Reviews are leaning positive, with audiences responding strongly to the returning cast, the fashion, and the creative team's decision to build on the original rather than simply repeat it.

The film is currently in theaters only, with no streaming date announced yet. As a 20th Century Studios title, it is expected to arrive on Disney Plus, with a digital rental and purchase window likely opening around July 2026. A full Disney+ streaming debut is projected for August to early September 2026, following the standard 85 to 100-day theatrical window. The original film is already on Disney+, making it easy for new viewers to catch up before the sequel arrives on the platform.
