Robert Redford has not only built a cinematic portfolio, but a space for cinema itself to grow. As the 42nd Sundance Film Festival overtakes the carpets, his daughter reminisces in his absence.
The film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid had offered Robert Redford the cinematic style he craved. Giving ode to the Sundance Kid, Redford established the Sundance Institute for independent filmmaking and storytelling in 1978.
47 years later, and a few months after his passing, his daughter, Amy Redford, has revealed her father's impact on not just cinema, but on his children as well. Redford shared with TODAY how her father's guidance pushed them to find their driving force in life.
"He taught us to find the thing that we’re most passionate about and the things we think might be able to change the world," Redford told TODAY. Robert Redford's creation of the esteemed Sundance Film Festival falls exactly in line with his values of changing the world.
Amy Redford, on the other hand, has a cinematic portfolio that needs attention as well.
Robert Redford's Hollywood footprint continued
Mirroring the Sundance founding legacy, Amy Redford is a veteran of the ceremony, having premiered her 2008 film, The Guitar, there. She has also made her directorial mark on the Toronto Film Festival, with Roost, in 2022.
Redford has a sprawling acting resume, with movies like Maid in Manhattan, This Revolution, and Sunshine Cleaning. Major shows like Sex and the City, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and The Sopranos are also added to her belt.
Robert Redford has left behind not just the Sundance Festival or several films, but also children who hold up the streak of talent. As the 42nd edition approaches, Amy Redford meets the ceremony halfway, in her father's absence.
