Sometimes, even a portfolio sprawling with poignant horror movies and a plethora of superhero ones may not be enough. At least, to get past the verifications of DCU, some directors have come to know that well enough.

Sam Raimi is known to have been handpicked, fresh out of college, to film the cult favorite the Evil Dead back in 1981. And while it was immensely successful, it is Raimi's wish to make a movie on the DCU hero Batman, which is a direct clash with his Marvel-catered, Spider-Man movies.

His current involvement in making Send Help landed him with a question about the DC movies he wished he were a part of. His immediate answer was Batman, which was not made possible because he never acquired its filming rights, as per Movie Web.

"I tried to make a Batman film. I couldn't get the rights," Raimi told Movie Web. However, he also stated The Shadow and Superman to be on the list as well. Raimi expressed his inclination towards creating things that devoted audiences find satisfyingly connected to the actual superhero universe.

While kick-starting with superheroes is more than apparent, closure to Raimi's journey with them might not be as much in the books.

Sam Raimi's discontinued superhero-verse

From 2002 to 2007, theatres were cascaded by the webs of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy. Starring Toby Maguire, the films created yet another superhero star-director duo that fans have asked back for time and again. While Maguire did appear in 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Raimi did play a part as creative consultant, the duo's reunion for Spider-Man 4 has been officially denied.

Sam Raimi, however, did make an MCU comeback with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in 2022. With both an impossbile Toby Maguire Spider-Man reprise and DCU staunchly keeping filming rights, Raimi's superhero era seems to be at rest for the moment.
