The Sydney Sweeney box-office draught has finally come to a standstill. With her recent release, her wave seems to be leaving Ana de Armas and a few others who had tied screens with this particular production house behind.

Sydney Sweeney's recent venture into thriller, The Housemaid, has debuted with $2.2 million on its opening day, December 19, 2025. Backed by a $35 million budget, the movie seems to be aiming for a $20 million to $25 million domestic gross over the weekend, as per Variety.

This crowns The Housemaid as Lionsgate's highest grosser for 2025. It surpasses Ana de Armas' Ballerina, which opened to $25 million in June 2025. Mark Wahlberg's Flight Risk lagged at $11.5 million to $12 million on its opening weekend in January 2025, ​as per Fandom Wire.

Sydney Sweeney has popularly teamed up with Amanda Seyfried in The Housemaid, under Paul Feig's direction. The Lionsgate triumph, is an adaptation of Freida McFadden's gripping novel of the same name.

While Sydney Sweeney is riding the hit wave with The Housemaid, it comes after a pickle that she had not really seen after her days in Euphoria.

Sydney Sweeney endured a rough patch with numbers like Echo Valley, Eden, and Americana. Recently and rather especially, she added Christy to the reverse portfolio.

The Housemaid has catapulted Sydney Sweeney past Ana de Armas in Lionsgate's roster. With record openings looking validating enough, this milestone signals brighter prospects for Sweeney as well as Lionsgate.
