Good news for The Conjuring fans as Ted and Lorraine Warren are coming to the screens sooner than expected. The Conjuring: The Last Rites bowed out as a supposed finale, then laughed its way to franchise riches, leaving Warner Bros. with no choice but to announce a prequel release date.

The Conjuring: First Communion has secured a theatrical release date of September 10, 2027, anchoring Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema’s next chapter firmly on the calendar. Positioned as a prequel, the film redirects the franchise toward its earliest spiritual and investigative foundations.

This move follows the commercial dominance of The Conjuring: Last Rites, which closed Ed Warren and Lorraine Warren’s arc while grossing approximately $495 million worldwide. That financial result reframed finality as opportunity, encouraging Warner Bros. to extend the universe rather than preserve nostalgia.

Instead of Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, younger performers are expected to portray the Warrens, aligning chronology with casting. As the tenth installment, following titles such as Annabelle and The Nun, the prequel reinforces a universe built on escalation, not repetition.

Considering that The Conjuring: The Last Rites was supposed to be the last installment of the franchise, there is a lot of hubbub about what the prequel will bring to the story.

What to expect from The Conjuring: First Communion?

The Conjuring: First Communion shifts the universe into its earliest days, exploring how Ed Warren and Lorraine Warren began their careers as demonologists after The Conjuring: Last Rites concluded their story. The prequel seeks to illuminate the couple’s beginnings, offering audiences both curiosity and a touch of dread about what came before.

The film promises to explain why the Warrens fled their first major cases, shaping the demons they would later confront with skill and terror.
