Ming-Na Wen, the actress behind fan-favourite assassin Fennec Shand, attended The Mandalorian and Grogu premiere, starstruck over one person: Sigourney Weaver. The meeting between two generations of genre-defining women turned out to be anything but a casual red carpet encounter. What followed was a fangirl moment so pure, even the most seasoned assassin could not play it cool.

Ming-Na Wen did not hide her excitement for even a second. She attended The Mandalorian and Grogu premiere to support creator Jon Favreau and director Dave Filoni, her boss and longtime collaborator on the franchise. Yet, when it came down to it, Sigourney Weaver was the real reason she showed up.

"My heart was pounding a mile a minute, and I just expressed my utter devotion to her career and how much she's given to me as a b***** woman, because I play several myself," she told Variety.

Wen then added, "But it was her inspiration. She was the first b**** woman that I ever saw. She k***** an alien in her underwear," cementing exactly why Weaver remains the gold standard of genre heroines.

While Wen clearly shares the same cinematic universe energy as Weaver, the two are not actually sharing the screen. Wen has confirmed she does not appear in The Mandalorian and Grogu, releasing May 22, 2026. Weaver, meanwhile, plays Colonel Ward, a New Republic military leader with ties to Leia, a whole new chapter for a woman who once outran a Xenomorph.

As Wen cheers Weaver on from the sidelines, her own career is anything but idle.

Ming-Na Wen's upcoming projects

Ming-Na Wen is currently filming Whatcha Want alongside Isabella Wei and Tzi Ma, described as Crazy Rich Asians meets Flashdance. She also has sci-fi thriller Persephone and Better Life in post-production, plus a guest role as the goddess Hera in Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3.

Beyond the screen, Wen has a cookbook in the works and remains active on the convention circuit through 2026. Married for over 30 years to Eric Michael Zee, she credits family as her anchor amid a packed schedule. From alien-slaying icons to fangirl moments, Wen proves even the most b***** women have someone they look up to.
