Noah Wyle has broken many records with The Pitt. What he has not dared to touch with the fame is his friendships with his ex co-stars whom he shared the medical experience.

For The Pitt, Noah Wyle got to deal with faces he was not entirely unfamiliar with. Backtracking to his days acting in the 90s hit medical drama ER, Wyle got to re-collaborate with creators R. Scott Gemmill and John Wells.

Who he has not gotten to work with again, but still maintains a friendship with, is his former ER co-star, George Clooney. Wyle revealed that for decades, Clooney has held a special place since their days on the show, as per PEOPLE.

"He's been a real touchstone figure in my life and one who seems to pop up with great regularity at the right moments," Noah Wyle explained to PEOPLE. Wyle and Clooney also presented the Best Actor awards to each other at the AARP Movies for Grownups Awards on January 10, 2026.

Like Wyle and Clooney's bond after all the years, the medical drama in question has been just as impactful.

The medical-drama giant before The Pitt ever was

NBC aired the first episode of ER on September 19, 1994. Since then, its length and unique-at-the-time plot had cemented it as a primetime regular in every home.

ER's then-newly introduced gritty and fast-paced style, combined with a cinematic rather than sitcom-flat filming, grabbed the eye immediately and sustainably. Its true-to-life retelling of medical practice garnered wide praise as well.

Noah Wyle had played John Carter amidst the ensemble cast of ER. Despite growing past his days of portraying a younger doctor's journey, Wyle has reformed his image as a medical actor with The Pitt.
