The X-Files has charmed everyone and their mothers while on TV, and Ryan Coogler is no stranger to the enchantment. Now tasked with forwarding the sci-fi magic, Coogler has his plans laid out.

Speaking to Josh Horowitz on Happy Sad Confused, Ryan Coogler revealed the sense of responsibility he feels towards shouldering the reprise of The X-Files. Having watched the show growing up, the Sinners director is plenty familiar with the show's hooking points.

"We intend on having both monsters-of-the-week and the overarching conspiracy," Coogler shared. He explained that the overarching plots of the seasons and the standalone episodes dotted in between both go hand-in-hand with the charm of its leading actors.

"I'm big fans of her. I'm big fans of David," Coogler spoke about Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny. His acknowledgment of their chemistry on Happy Sad Confused is somewhat of a confirmation of the actors' return to this version of the show.

Coogler's interest in the show is actually not as surprising as it may seem, after cementing his success on the silver screen.

Creator of the original X-Files, Chris Carter, has publicly blessed Ryan Coogler. While speaking on On The Coast with Gloria Macarenko in 2023, Carter revealed Coogler had taken an interest in reworking the show with a diverse cast.

Since then, the Black Panther maker's fondness for the show has been legitimized several times. Coogler has claimed to have a familial connection to the show. He has revealed having watched the show with his mother and brother during his childhood to several outlets.

Ryan Coogler is slowly working his way towards reprising a cult-television staple. Sourcing his childhood and esteemed creators, his path is perfect, if not burdened with expectations.
