Benno Fürmann, with singing voice Rolando Villazón, plays Private Nikolaus Sprink, a German tenor based on Walter Kirchhoff. Guillaume Canet is Lieutenant Camille René Audebert of the French 26th Infantry. Diane Kruger, singing voice Natalie Dessay, is Anna Sørensen, Sprink’s Danish soprano wife. 

Gary Lewis portrays Father Palmer, a Scottish priest and stretcher-bearer. Alex Ferns is Lieutenant Gordon of the Scots Fusiliers. Dany Boon plays Private Ponchel, Audebert’s batman. Daniel Brühl is Lieutenant Horstmayer of the German 93rd Infantry. Supporting roles include Christian Carion, Christopher Fulford, and Mathias Herrmann.
