Tom Hiddleston has long drawn from classic villains to craft his mischievous Loki. In a fresh revelation, the actor has come clean about yet another Tim Burton-lined performance that ignited it all.

Regardless of significant redemption, Loki's origins trace back to a mischievous grin that started it all. Tom Hiddleston, Loki's actor, has confessed that Jack Nicholson's Joker in Tim Burton's 1989 Batman profoundly shaped his God of Mischief.

"The way Jack Nicholson played the Joker… at the time in my life when I saw it, it made such an impact on my imagination," he said on Happy Sad Confused. Praising Nicholson's inventive and free-spirited spin on the DC villain, Hiddleston admitted that without this rendition of Batman, Loki might not have been.

"Truthfully, I don’t think I would’ve played Loki without that film," he said on Happy Sad Confused. Hiddleston revealed he consciously carried Nicholson's essence into Loki's debut, alongside experimenting with other styles alongside director Kenneth Branagh.

Regardless of the impact, the Jack Nicholson inspiration is only one of many for Tom Hiddleston.

Loki's villainous roots

This is not Tom Hiddleston's first nod to influences; in a 2013 Entertainment Weekly chat, he hailed Alan Rickman in Die Hard. Another influence has also been James Mason in North by Northwest.

Peter O'Toole and Clint Eastwood had been a few more areas of inspiration for Hiddleston. His tribute, in fact, bridges DC and Marvel as one Joker's grin sparked Loki's enduring smirk across films.
