Shonda Rhimes' Scandal, which aired from 2012 to 2018, hooked viewers on its fast-paced, high-stakes political drama. But more than a political thriller, it evolved to become an epic story of forbidden love. Kerry Washington's Olivia Pope, a Washington, D.C. fixer, alongside Tony Goldwyn's President Fitzgerald Grant, gave fans the true meaning of longing. Despite the fact that Fitz was married and the president of the United States, Olivia and Fitz, known to their fandom as "Olitz," were unable to avoid one another. 

But the series finale did not see them together, and both characters walked their separate ways in the end. And now, years after the show’s conclusion, when Washington and Goldwyn met once again at Variety's Actors on Actors, both actors could not help but reflect on the love story and how it ended. Goldwyn gave an optimistic answer when asked about the fate of Olitz after the series finale.

“I feel that Fitz and Olivia are together,” Goldwyn replied to Washington’s question.

When asked what they might be doing together, he went a bit deeper than the question. He came up with a good analysis of what the characters meant to each other. Rather than being something that was ultimately dysfunctional, in his opinion, what the characters had at their core was very real, which is why they were unable to escape it. In the end, he believes that those two individuals were what they wanted from each other.

Olivia left the White House during the Scandal series finale, which featured a montage of each character. Since the audience is informed that she will have a picture in the National Portrait Gallery - an honor often given to presidents - her future is the most enigmatic. In Fitz and Olivia's final moments together on screen, they say "Hi" to one another, which was always their method of getting back in touch.

While the meet up did not just feature discussions from their Scandal days, but also about their new projects.

Imperfect Women, Kerry Washington's most recent effort, is an Apple TV thriller. In the show, she stars and serves as executive producer. During their Actors on Actors chat, she told Goldwyn that through the show, she strives to create an atmosphere where people feel secure enough to take huge chances and big swings.

This television season, Tony Goldwyn has two major ventures under his belt. In Hacks, he portrays Bob Lipka, the haughty media boss who, after comedian Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) stopped hosting a late-night talk show on his network, holds her to the harshest interpretation of her contract's noncompete clause. Additionally, he is playing Nicholas Baxter on Law & Order, where he started in March 2024 as the Manhattan district attorney.
