During a Kansas City Chiefs game, he spoke on SiriusXM  The Morning Mash Up about the incident. Romo admitted that he made the remark to playfully tease fans while the couple was not yet engaged.

"I did kind of play with fans a little bit," Romo admitted. At that time, Swift and Kelce were not engaged, but in August 2025, Kelce proposed. Romo may not get to tease Swifties this year, but if Kelce continues in the league, he could eventually call her his wife with full accuracy. But that was not it, as Romo pulled a similar stunt later.

The excitement peaked when Kelce, 34, scored a touchdown, creating yet another unforgettable moment. Legendary commentator Tony Romo captured the scene, adding his signature flair, as reported by USA Today.

When Taylor Swift appeared on the big screen, Tony Romo pointed out that Jason Kelce, Travis Kelce’s older brother, was standing right behind her. He framed it as a playful, attention-grabbing connection between Swift and the Kelce family.

“There’s your brother-in-law, right behind you,” he said. The remark was delivered casually during the broadcast, making it sound like breaking news, but it was actually just Romo having fun and poking at fans, which is why it quickly went viral.
