Carrie Coon has turned to Broadway to start her new year, away from The White Lotus. Armed with a script by Tracy Letts, Coon seems to have built a home and placed her heart onstage.

Tracy Letts' Bug had first hit the stage in 1996. Since then, the play has been traded across stages, and Letts has found the perfect Broadway helmer for it.

As of January 8, 2026, Bug has made its Broadway premiere, with The White Lotus and The Gilded Age star Carrie Coon. What makes it even more interesting is the off-stage partnership between Coon and Letts, who have been married since 2013.

"For the people who've only seen her do Gilded Age or White Lotus, they just don't know what a stage animal she is," Letts told CBS. Letts has made his mark beyond playwriting as a Tony awardee for his acting in the play, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

Coon, on the other hand, is almost as close to Letts in stage stature.

Carrie Coon's struggle to get on Broadway

In The White Lotus, Carrie Coon donned the persona of a New York lawyer and divorcee, Laurie Duffy. Right before, she had played Bertha Russell in The Gilded Age in 2022, but not to her utmost pleasure.

"In order to do a play on Broadway, you have to do The White Lotus, or else you're not allowed," Coon told CBS. Coon expressed her concern for Broadway's selection process, which caters more to fame than skill these days.

Carrie Coon has ascended Hollywood's harrowing staricase, one trend at a time. With Tracy Letts' playwriting by her side, the two have formed a team on the Broadway stage.
