Following reports informing that Travis Kelce may have bought Taylor Swift a $125,000 vintage jewelry set, the curiosity around the history of the Hollywood heirloom has now grown restless. According to Page Six, the distinctive opal ensemble that Taylor Swift has been spotted wearing at a number of events, including a wedding in Brooklyn, belonged to none other than the singer's most recent muse, the late Elizabeth Taylor.
Swift was seen sporting items from the opals on her date nights in New York City with Travis Kelce and on other occasions around New York City as of late. She also wore the opals with a ring, a round-cut bracelet, chandelier earrings paired with a silk cut dress, and a marquise-cut bracelet during an interview with New York Times Magazine. The constant appearance of the jewellery with Swift’s ensemble has thrown the internet into a spiral about the backstory attached to this beautiful Opal set.
Adam Fox, the President of Fox Estate Jewelry, came through with a revelation that in December of 2025, a sports agency had brought the same Elizabeth Taylor collection, which he found strange at the time. He changed his mind after seeing a picture of Swift wearing the entire set from WeWoreWhatJewels. He went on to explain that none other than Elizabeth Taylor had purchased the opal set in 1999.
After Fox Estate Jewelry purchased it for $6000 at a Christie auction in 2011, they sold the whole Darlene de Sedle set, which consists of two gold bracelets, chandelier earrings, and a ring made of 22-karat gold with black Australian opals, for $125,000 through 1stDibs. Adam Fox stated that he was thrilled to see Swift wearing the necklace at last.
Anyhow, besides the history of the jewelry set, the internet is also busy joining the dots to prove the importance of these opals in Swift's personal and professional life.
The significance of the opals in Taylor Swift’s life
Taylor Swift's songs 'Opalite' and 'Elizabeth Taylor' from 'The Life of a Showgirl' allude to her admiration for the gemstone and the renowned actress, respectively. Additionally, each earring has thirteen opals, which is seen as a reference to Taylor Swift's birthdate and number. Furthermore, the fact that opal is also thought to be Travis Kelce's birthstone strengthens the connection.
Since the end of March, Swift has maintained a relatively quiet profile, presumably due to last-minute preparations for her July wedding. Swift and Kelce are reported to have fixed July 3, 2026, as the date to tie the knot in New York City, and it might be that the bride's blue item could be one of these historic opals, which have an enormous Hollywood legacy linked to them.
