The almost four year pause of BTS, enforced by duty rather than desire, is finally loosening its grip. The same group that turned 'Love Yourself Tear' and 'Dynamite' into global currency never lost relevance. With military service behind them, BTS is ready to step back into the spotlight.

The New Year delivered concrete BTS news when BigHit used its Korean language X account on January 1, 2026 to confirm a March 20 comeback. The announcement immediately established a return timeline and formally closed a hiatus that had lasted nearly four years.

That confirmation followed months of carefully staged signals from the group rather than sudden revelation. In November, RM used Weverse to report that recording sessions were progressing well, framing the January announcement as the next logical step.

Jung Kook reinforced that momentum through an Elle Korea interview, emphasizing that the upcoming spring carried heightened importance for both the group and its audience. His remarks aligned closely with the March timing later confirmed by BigHit.

This coordinated rollout became possible after Jung Kook, RM, Suga, V, and Jimin completed military service in June 2025 and reunited with j-hope and Jin on camera. Soon after, BTS confirmed immediate studio plans, a spring album, and a world tour.

Although the group making a comeback after years, fans were not in lack of BTS content.

What the BTS members were up to till now

While BTS remained inactive as a group, Jin resumed public life after his June 2024 discharge by serving as a Paris 2024 Olympic torchbearer. He released the solo album 'Happy', followed by the EP 'Echo', and completed the RunSeokjin Ep. Tour in August 2025.

At the same time, j-hope transitioned quickly into touring after discharge, launching the Hope on the Stage tour across Seoul, Brooklyn, and Los Angeles. His special album 'Hope on the Street Vol. 1' became one of the top-grossing K-pop tours of 2025.

Jimin sustained commercial dominance through 'MUSE', which topped Billboard’s 2025 Year-End World Albums Chart for solo artists. Jung Kook expanded globally with the theatrical documentary I Am Still, Chanel ambassadorship, and a record-setting seven billion Spotify streams.

Elsewhere, RM earned acclaim for 'Right Place, Wrong Person' while developing an art exhibition as a Samsung Art TV ambassador. V released the TYPE 非 photobook and earned major awards, while Suga closed the Agust D-Day Tour and opened the Min Yoongi Center, before the group confirmed a March 20, 2026 comeback.
