UFC 329 came in with huge expectations, built around Conor McGregor’s long-awaited return and a rematch with Max Holloway that had been years in the making. The buildup was all about whether McGregor could recapture old magic after a long layoff, while Holloway entered as the dangerous pressure fighter ready to spoil the comeback. By the time the cage door closed, however, the event turned into something much more abrupt than anyone expected.
The main event ended in one of the shortest finishes in UFC history, with Max Holloway stopping Conor McGregor by first-round TKO in just 69 seconds. McGregor appeared to injure his right leg almost immediately after launching a jumping kick, and the damage quickly took over the fight.
He fell several times while trying to continue, and Holloway capitalized by pressing forward until the referee stepped in and halted the contest. The official stoppage was recorded at 1:09 of round one, making it McGregor’s quickest defeat in the UFC and Holloway’s fastest win in the promotion.

The fight also delivered a major business milestone. UFC 329 generated a $25 million gate at T-Mobile Arena, setting a new all-time UFC record for live ticket revenue, according to reporting on Dana White’s post-event comments. It was a strange contrast: a blockbuster atmosphere around a fight that collapsed in seconds.
For Max Holloway, the win carried more than just record value.
Max Holloway’s revenge
It was a rematch triumph over a rival who had beaten Max Holloway before, emphatically turning the tables and doing it in the most decisive way possible. The second McGregor-Holloway meeting did not just end with Holloway ahead on the scorecards or surviving a close war.
It ended with Holloway forcing the stoppage after McGregor’s leg problem made continuation impossible. This was also the second time Holloway has won a fight in which his opponent was visibly compromised by injury inside the cage, a detail that will only deepen discussion around his ability to stay composed when chaos hits.
He did not have to chase a long, exhausting battle. Instead, he stayed patient, read the situation, and seized the opening when McGregor could no longer stand on his own terms. In that sense, the rematch became less about a comeback and more about Holloway collecting a revenge win with maximum efficiency.
