The UK has formally denied Kanye West’s entry to the country, rejecting his Electronic Travel Authorisation application because his presence is not deemed to be "conducive to the public good," as pointed out by Keir Starmer. Officials have framed the move within existing security and immigration policy, pointing to Kanye West’s history of extremist-linked rhetoric and antisemitic speeches as creating a risk of public disorder and the spreading of hate.

The reversal came after an initial online approval, which was then blocked following a higher-level review, underscoring just how politically charged and closely scrutinised his case had become. With Kanye West’s entry denied, the Wireless Festival has been forced to cancel its entire 2026 edition rather than attempt a last-minute artist reshuffle.

Organisers explained that the festival was built around Kanye West headlining all three nights, and that the timing, mere months before the event and amid the peak of summer festival bookings, made securing a comparable replacement commercially and logistically impossible. As a result, all tickets are being refunded.

Schwimmer framed his comments around the impact of Kanye West’s antisemitic remarks and the broader atmosphere of hate, arguing that high-profile festivals should not reward artists with that kind of record.
