Chappell Roan has recently opened up about her evolving relationship with social media, admitting she's in a "very privileged position" to step away when needed. While online platforms have become an unavoidable part of modern celebrity culture, the singer seems to have experienced the other side of that reality as well. During a recent appearance on the P&G and iHeartRadio Elton John Impact Awards podcast, Roan reflected on why distancing herself from social media has become so important.
Roan admitted that diving into comment sections can often feel "disheartening," revealing that she no longer keeps social media apps on her phone. Instead, the singer said she simply deletes them whenever the negativity becomes overwhelming, choosing to focus on the things that truly matter rather than online criticism. As Roan pointed out, comments from strangers won't stop her from supporting causes she cares about or using her platform for meaningful change.
"I just delete it when it becomes too much and keep it moving," she continued. "Because at the end of the day, no matter what anyone says about me online or in person, it's not gonna stop people like Elton [John] and I [from] donating money, donating time, writing about things that matter to us." Roan said.
Adding further perspective, Roan explained that deleting social media allows her to escape the "hurricane" of constant online noise. At the same time, she recognized that many artists rely heavily on those platforms to keep their careers moving forward, making it far harder to disconnect.
While Roan may be taking a step back from social media, her music continues to keep her firmly in the spotlight.
All about Chappell Roan's catalogue
While fans continue waiting for Roan's next full-length album, her catalogue has steadily expanded in recent years. Her most recent standalone releases included 'The Subway' and 'The Giver', both of which arrived in 2025, while 'Good Luck, Babe!' emerged as the breakout anthem that propelled her to new heights in 2024. Together, the singles helped bridge the gap between her debut era and her highly anticipated next chapter.
Much of Roan's success can be traced back to her acclaimed 2023 debut album, 'The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess', which featured fan-favourite tracks such as 'Red Wine Supernova', 'Casual', 'HOT TO GO!', and 'Pink Pony Club'. Before her synth-pop breakthrough, the singer had also released a number of indie-pop projects, including the 'School Nights' EP and standalone tracks such as 'Bitter' and 'Love Me Anyway', laying the foundation for the artist she would later become.
And while Roan may have logged off social media for now, her voice continues to resonate far beyond the comment section.
