Vin Diesel shared an emotional moment at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival while introducing Meadow Walker during a special midnight screening celebrating the 25th anniversary of The Fast and the Furious. Honoring the legacy of Meadow’s late father, Paul Walker, Diesel admitted he struggled to hold back emotion as the crowd applauded.

“The person who was not going to let me come alone here to represent that brotherhood was Meadow Walker,” Diesel said on stage after introducing longtime Fast & Furious co-stars Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster. As applause broke out across the theater, Diesel paused before adding, “I’m gonna go and shed a tear real quick.”

“The beginning of one word… and that word is love.” Diesel reflects on the meaning of the 2001 film, telling the audience what it represented for him before the screening began. The emotional Cannes moment came during a celebration marking 25 years since the original Fast & Furious film launched one of Hollywood’s biggest action franchises, which has made over $7 billion at the worldwide box office.

But Vin Diesel and Meadow Walker’s emotional Cannes moment carried even deeper meaning because of the bond they have shared over the years.

Since Paul Walker’s tragic death in 2013, Diesel has remained closely connected to Meadow, who has often referred to him as family. Diesel, who is also Meadow’s godfather, famously walked her down the aisle at her wedding in 2021 — a gesture that many fans saw as an emotional continuation of the brotherhood he shared with Paul both on and off screen.

Meadow, now 27, has also continued preserving her father’s legacy through the Paul Walker Foundation while maintaining ties to the franchise that made him a global star. In 2023, she even made a cameo appearance in Fast X, while continuing to appear alongside Diesel and the extended Fast & Furious cast at major franchise events.

The Cannes reunion also served as a reminder that the Fast & Furious family is not finished yet. Speaking to the crowd, Diesel teased the upcoming franchise finale, saying the only reason they are continuing towards Fast Forever in 2028 is because of fans who have remained loyal to the series for over two decades. The eleventh installment is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 17, 2028.
