The story of Punch, a baby Japanese macaque born in July 2025, captured hearts worldwide after videos of him being bullied by older monkeys went viral. Fans empathized with his struggle, sparking a wave of media attention and support that inspired an unexpected digital twist, where you can step into Punch’s world like never before.

Punch’s viral fame has now become a full-fledged video game called Zoo Fighter. Players take control of the baby macaque, wielding his IKEA orangutan plushie to fend off hostile troop members.

After defeating 100 bullies, the game ends with Punch arriving safely at a virtual sanctuary. It blends classic arcade gameplay with a clear message about primate welfare.

The game was created by American developer Richie Branson, known for viral browser games. The game was developed in response to the Free Punch movement. It offers a straightforward, objective-driven experience designed for quick play in a web browser.

As fans virtually fend off monkey bullies, the real Punch is learning the ropes of troop life, blending viral fame with genuine animal growth.

Baby Punch explores the world with hugs and giggles

The real Punch is thriving at Ichikawa City Zoo in Chiba, Japan, gradually integrating into his monkey troop. Zookeepers report he is healthy, eating independently, and socializing successfully, being groomed and even hugged by older monkeys.

His iconic IKEA plushie is now mostly for sleep comfort and quiet moments, as he explores and bonds naturally with the troop, showing remarkable resilience.

But Punch’s plushie has grown beyond a simple comfort companion. Zoo Fighter made his IKEA orangutan a worldwide sensation, selling out as fans rallied in support. In the end, Punch and his tiny stuffed sidekick together became an unexpected symbol of how one small monkey’s story can spark empathy far beyond the zoo walls.
