Obsession has emerged as one of 2026's biggest horror success stories, turning a modest indie production into a global box office phenomenon. Its shocking twists, emotional core, and unforgettable performances have already sparked speculation about whether the story could continue in a follow-up film, and Inde Navarrette has an answer.
As excitement around the movie grows, fans have naturally begun asking whether Obsession 2 could become a reality. However, the film's breakout star, Inde Navarrette, has a different vision for what should come next. Speaking in an interview with Nylon, Navarrette explained that she does not believe the story needs another installment.
“I think the beautiful thing about it is that there is no sequel. I think it’d be cool if Curry did the anthology series that he was talking about, where each is a different wish. Then I could watch and not get scared by myself,” Navarrette said upon being asked whether she would go for Obsession 2.
Navarrette's comments to Nylon come at a time when Obsession continues to enjoy massive success following its theatrical release. Made on a budget of under $1 million, the supernatural horror film has earned nearly $300 million worldwide, becoming one of 2026's most profitable releases.
With audiences embracing both its unique premise and emotional storytelling, discussions about a potential sequel have only intensified, making the actress's stance particularly noteworthy.
The actress's comments reflect her appreciation for the film's self-contained story while also leaving room for Barker's supernatural world to evolve beyond Nikki and Bear's journey.
Obsession tells a complete story from beginning to end
In Curry Barker's supernatural horror film, Nikki becomes the victim of a dangerous wish after her friend Bear wishes she would love him more than anyone else. What begins as unrequited affection quickly spirals into terrifying obsession, with Nikki transforming into a violent force driven by supernatural love.
Inde Navarrette's chilling portrayal of Nikki has been widely praised as one of the year's standout horror performances, helping elevate the low-budget film into one of 2026's biggest surprises. While many viewers have wondered what happens to Nikki after the ending, the actress believes the story is stronger because it concludes where it does.
Although Navarrette is not interested in an Obsession sequel, she has not ruled out returning to horror. She has expressed enthusiasm for future genre projects and believes Curry Barker has plenty more stories to tell. For now, though, she feels Obsession should remain a complete story, with any future expansion exploring new characters and new wishes through an anthology rather than revisiting Nikki's journey.
Do you agree with Inde Navarrette that Obsession should remain a standalone film, or would you still like to see Obsession 2? Let us know in the comments!
