Brendan Fraser has made a significant commitment to his comeback in The Mummy 4. After 20 years, Brendan Fraser could finally lean into his most celebrated role as Rick O'Connell in The Mummy franchise. It seems like an eternity since we last saw him as the adventurer, treasure hunter, and now, he is gearing up to reprise the role once again in his fifties.

Fraser teased The Mummy 4, which will hit theaters on May 19, 2028, with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. He will get back together with Rachel Weisz, who played Rick's wife Evelyn in the first two Mummy films, before Maria Bello took her place in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. And it would not be a proper The Mummy reunion without John Hannah, would it be now? He will return as Evelyn’s goofy but reliable older brother, Jonathan.

The reports of Fraser and Rachel Weisz's involvement in The Mummy 4 came in late 2025. The project's fate was cemented when Universal confirmed the film's release date. The two also finalized their casting, bringing them back together after a 25-year absence for the third film.

In comparison to the 1999 original, The Mummy and the 2001 sequel, The Mummy Returns, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor from 2008, which had Bello as Evelyn instead of Weisz, was the lowest-grossing movie in the trilogy and garnered unfavorable reviews. Now that the old gang is back together, the franchise may get a new lease on life with this fourth rendition.

However, Fraser admits in the show with Jimmy Fallon that he had lost all hope for a revival of the original The Mummy franchise.

Brenden Fraser almost lost hope for The Mummy comeback

After years of pestering by the fans, Brendan Fraser will finally be seen in The Mummy 4. But at one point in time, he had lost all hope of ever being a part of the franchise again. He kept waiting for some time, holding onto his optimism, but that unshakeable resolve was shattered once the other Mummy movie started being made.

But finally, the prayers were heard, and the makers went through with the idea of a sequel to The Mummy 3. For now, Fraser has only acknowledged that he intends to get in shape as Rick O'Connell without giving out any major details about the plot.

The movie comes after Fraser started his march to resurgence with his Oscar-winning performance in Darren Aronofsky's thriller The Whale in 2023. He also played a supporting part in Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon, and ventured with The Rental Family - an award contender from last year.
