Yuta Still Has Rika After the 'Jujutsu Kaisen 0' Ending and It’s Not a Plot Hole

Jan 14, 2026, 1:59 AM CUT

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 ended with more disclosure than most had bargained for. Yuta Okkotsu, in a desperate gesture, summoned Rika, the Queen of Curses, to vanquish Suguru Geto. In a turn of events, Yuta survived, Rika was freed, and fans thought that was the end, until Rika's reappearance in Season 3 of Jujutsu Kaisen, which undoubtedly left many confused.

Rika, who remains with Yuta Okkotsu, is not the girl of his childhood memories. Rika Orimoto moved on to the afterlife at the finale of Jujutsu Kaisen 0, leaving only fragments of herself behind. These remnants were preserved as a gift to sustain Yuta’s formidable strength.

The vestige Rika left is more than a memory; it is a sentient cursed spirit infused with her will. This form operates autonomously yet continues to shield Yuta Okkotsu, ensuring that the protective bond of the past endures even after her passing. Without it, Yuta’s potential as a Special Grade sorcerer would falter.

Rika now acts as a living repository for Yuta Okkotsu’s copied Cursed Techniques and stored cursed energy. The magnitude of Yuta’s Copy Technique exceeds his mind’s capacity, and the Rika shell compensates for this limitation. During battles, she is essential to maintain both offensive and defensive versatility.

This explanation comes from Jujutsu Kaisen manga, specifically chapter 178. The author gives a thorough breakdown of why Rika is still with Yuta.

Yet, the vessel Rika differs in several essential aspects from the original Rika Orimoto’s cursed form.

The key differences of the present Rika from Jujutsu Kaisen 0

The original Rika Orimoto was a Special Grade Vengeful Cursed Spirit bound to the living world when Yuta Okkotsu accidentally cursed her. She acted independently and was dangerously volatile, a force only Yuta could control.

The current Rika is far less unpredictable and functions as a Shikigami, tethered to Yuta through his engagement ring for a strict five-minute limit of full manifestation.

Their divergence extends to role and appearance. Original Rika was the endless wellspring of Yuta Okkotsu’s cursed energy, always active and uncontrollable. Today’s Rika stores copied cursed techniques, partially appearing as a white skull-shaped head, fully manifesting as a muscular figure with long white hair, replacing her grotesque, tentacled past form.
