Disney has had a history of spinning tales from folklore. However, it was Zootopia 2's animated buddy cop story that has spun just over a billion for the conglomerate.

Zootopia 2, or Zootropolis 2, hit the screens on November, 26, 2025. Since then, the predator-prey chase has transcended into a chase for the designation of Disney's, or better yet, Hollywood's biggest film ever made.

The chase has, however, come to an end, with Zooptopia 2 becoming Disney's first animated film to touch the $1.7 billion mark at the box office, as per several outlets. It is also Hollywood's 9th highest-grossing film, as per the BBC.

As per the BBC, Zootopia 2 broke the record set by Inside Out 2 in 2024, which touched the $1.69 gross mark. However, it still trails behind Ne Zha 2, released in early 2025, which grossed about $2.2 billion overall.

Beyond Zootopia 2's massive gross, this reprise justifies every bit of the dollars made with the themes it tackles.

What is Zooptopia 2 about?

Zootopia brought a familiar predator-prey chase to life in 2016. 9 years later, Zootopia 2 has dived several layers deeper with the introduction of the reptilian sector of fauna.

Several instances of the film have been deciphered as hints towards real-world issues like systemic exclusion, historical erasure, and marginalization of a certain community. The tackling of these themes through comedic timing and excellent voice deliveries has added to it as well.

Zootopia 2 has visibly shaken the box office, with its $1.31 billion gross garnered internationally alone. It has become a masterclass in mixing up deeper themes and attractive visuals, coupled with results worth billions.
